there is/there are
| ex. |

Lesson 9
More
general vocabulary such as bottle, wine, glass, coffee, etc. Six colors are
introduced (green, yellow, white, grey, blue, brown).
| Sentence Pattens |
| Greek |
English |
Phonetically |
| θελω, θελεις, θελει / θελοθμε, θελετε, θελοθν |
I want, you want, he-she-it wants /
we want, you (plural) want, they want |
th-eh-lo, th-eh-lees, th-eh-lee /
th-eh-lomae, th-eh-leh-te, th-eh-loon |
The verb καπνιζω (kahp-nee-zo) means to smoke. Δεν καπνιζω (then
kahp-nee-zo) means I don't smoke. Also worth noting here is that Greek verbs do not have
an infinitive form which differs from the conjugated form of the verb. The first
person singular of the verb serves as an infinitive. If you don't understand this
concept, great; it's easier to learn Greek on its own rules rather than comparing Greeek
to another language, such as Spanish, which has infinitive forms of verbs which can differ
from the conjugated form of verbs.
Lesson 10 More colors (black and red) are introduced and the
previous lesson's colors are reviewed.
| Sentence Pattens |
| The lesson deals with a very
important aspect of Greek grammar: adjectives modify their endings to reflect the noun(s)
they describe. |
| Here's an example: |
| το βιβλιω ειναι κιτρινο |
the book is yellow |
toh veevleeo eenae key-tree-no |
| τα βιβλια ειναι κιτπινα |
the books are yellow |
tah veevleea eenae key-tree-na |
